I had a conversation with an anonymous “weed head” the other day about the dangers of smoking weed and he had an interesting outlook on the side affects. He’ll be referred to as “green” for the remainder of the post:
Me: If you know about the risks of smoking weed, then why do you continue to do it?
Green: People make too big of a deal about those “risks” more people die from driving a car than from smoking weed. Everything else is just minor.
Me: So limiting your capacity to absorb and retain information which results in short-term memory loss is minor?
Green: Everyone is going to grow old and forget things anyway, besides there are some things in my life that I’m trying to forget…weed just speeds up the process.
Me: What about the damage it can cause to your male reproductive system and your ability to produce sperm?
Green: I don’t want to have kids anyway; smoking weed just decreases my chances of getting a girl pregnant.
Me: Well did you know there is just as much exposure to cancer-causing chemicals from smoking one marijuana joint as smoking five tobacco cigarettes?
Green: Well, some people smoke two packs of cigarettes a day, if I smoke weed twice a day, that’s only about ten cigarettes which is less than one pack.
This conversation went on for another twenty minutes; he even tried to feed me some statistics about the benefits to smoking weed. I eventually realized that I wasn’t going to get through to him, he was going to continue to think that those “Go Green” ads were telling him to move up to three blunts a day.
Try interviewing your weed smoking friends and see some of the crazy responses they come up with.
