Cost to be the Boss

Chinese media reported Thursday that Houston Rockets center Yao Ming purchased his former team, The Shanghai Sharks.

The sharks haven’t been a good team since Yao wore the uniform.

“I grew up in the city and became a professional player in this team, so I hope I can do something to help,” Yao was quoted as saying on Shanghai TV.

In 2008, 28 year old Yao made the Forbes list of the wealthiest Chinese entertainers with an income of 388 million yuan in 2008.

As a teenager Yao started playing for the Sharks and lead them to their only CBA title before he came to America in 2002.

20 million is the yearly cost to run the Sharks, according to the business newspaper of China.  I don’t believe this is a god investment in Yao’s case, but sometimes you have to pay back what you feel you owe and don’t forget where you come from.
