Marijuana may be the solution to our economic problems! No, I don’t mean let’s all smoke a joint and watch are problems float away. But recent arguments from marijuana supporters suggest that permitting the sale and tax of pot could put billions of dollars into the economy.
Aside from the already prevalent arguments that marijuana is less dangerous than legal substances like cigarettes and alcohol; has legitimate medical uses; and the money spent prosecuting marijuana offenses could be better used on more pressing public concerns, supporters may have stumbled onto their most convincing argument yet.
California has been the first to jump on the band wagon. Legislators have already proposed a bill that would bring in about 1.3 billion dollars a year by taxing $50 per ounce of marijuana to citizens 21 and older.
Believe it or not, in the distant future this dream may become a reality. Several national polls have shown that the percent of American adults who are in favor of marijuana legalization has almost doubled to %45….and we already know that about %65 of the teens are on board.
I don’t know about you but the thought of soon being able to charge a nickle bag to my credit card frightens me!
