Shooting Near The Capitol Building

capitol hill police

On Wednesday July 15th a shooting occurred one block away from Capitol Hill at about 5:15. An unidentified man fled a routine traffic stop leading into a small chase. Apparently, the man had a gun in hand. Capitol Hill Police commanded the man to drop the weapon and he refused. Threatening their lives and those in the surrounding area, police shot the man and after being administered first aid by officers, he was rushed to a hospital where he died. Two officers also suffered minor injuries. Crazy thing is that my conference group had just left the building and area minutes before the shooting. (Along with the hundreds of other tourists who visit the Capitol Building daily and some who witnessed the incident of course)
